The Yenching Social Innovation Forum (YSIF) is a student-led event hosted by the Yenching Academy of Peking University. The Yenching Academy is an international Master’s Degree program established to foster a deeper multidisciplinary understanding of China and to cultivate a new generation of global leaders.
Hosted in Beijing, YSIF will take advantage of China’s unique position as a rapidly developing economy facing a range of environmental concerns on the world stage. As both a center of governance and a hub of social innovation and technology development, Beijing offers a multifaceted and rapidly evolving backdrop against which to study environmental solutions on a policy, private sector, and individual level.
The 2017 Yenching Social Innovation Forum seeks to bring together leaders in green entrepreneurship and innovative environmental solutions under the theme Dynamic Solutions for a Sustainable Future. As the impacts of climate change grow more pronounced each day, the need for renewable energy, sustainable development, and innovative social solutions becomes increasingly urgent. Often, government actors are cast as a singular solution to the complex issues associated with climate change. Yet, it is individuals who work within local communities around the world to promote a sustainable future. Our Forum will provide an opportunity for those on the frontlines of fighting for environmental solutions to exchange ideas, learn from pioneers across various sectors, build global networks, and develop successful strategies for China and the world.
Applications for the 2017 Yenching Social Innovation Forum opened on September 28 and close on October 20. Admissions will be made on a rolling basis. The Forum will take place from December 8-11, 2017 at Peking University in Beijing, China. Round trip travel, accommodation, meals, and materials will be covered for all admitted applicants by the Yenching Academy.
The Forum will incorporate a range of interactive activities, including workshops, site visits, cross-cultural networking opportunities, and presentations from both business leaders and policy makers. The programming of YSIF seeks not only to further develop the expertise of participants, but also to lay the foundation for future cross-national collaboration.
With an acceptance rate of less than 5% last year, the Yenching Social Innovation Forum is a highly selective opportunity for young leaders in today’s globalized world. In our 2016 conference, delegates from 16 countries affiliated with 22 of the world’s leading universities attended. Building on last year’s successful forum, 2017 YSIF will bring together the next generation of burgeoning researchers, innovators, entrepreneurs, policy makers, and activists.
