On November 30, Yenching Academy held the first Professional and Leadership Mentor Sharing Session delivered by our first mentor Lily Qiu, founder of Beijing AngelMom Charity Foundation, Beijing Peaceland Foundation, and Blue Sky Rescue Team. Ms. Qiu had an in-depth discussion with the Scholars, sharing her stories in the international humanitarian aid and public welfare projects. The event not only helped scholars learn more about the international practice of human rights and public welfare but also kicked off the Yenching Academy’s Professional and Leadership Mentor Program.
Before the session began, Fan Shiming, the Associate Dean of Yenching Academy, welcomed Ms. Qiu Lily and presented her with the official Professional and Leadership Mentor certificate in Jingyuan Courtyard 3. Professor Fan introduced that the Academy plans to recruit senior experts from different social fields as mentors to help YCA Scholars understand industry trends, conduct self-exploration, and consider their future careers. The first phase of the Professional and Leadership Mentor Program will be officially launched in the spring semester of 2022. Senior professionals from various fields, including financial investment, culture and media, high-tech industry, entrepreneurship, and international organizations, will be invited to as Professional and Leadership Mentors of YCA.
As the first mentor of the program, Ms. Qiu expressed her appreciation for the opportunity and eagerness to work with YCA Scholars across the world, noting that her engagement aligns "with the philosophy of Yenching Academy, which is international and humanitarian. "
Ms. Qiu has participated in and conducted international aid and public welfare projects in more than 20 countries and regions, including Afghanistan, Cambodia, Lebanon, Mongolia, North Korea, Syria, and Thailand. When talking about the rescue projects she undertook, she showed some memorable photos, including the breathtaking demining operation in Cambodia, the rescue of 13 soccer boys trapped in a cave in Thailand, and the smiling faces of children in an orphanage during the hurricane relief in Mozambique.
After Ms. Qiu’s wonderful sharing, online and offline Scholars actively raised questions and communicated their experiences and thoughts about public welfare with the new mentor. Ms. Qiu offered the Scholars sincere suggestions and encouraged everyone to give full play to their professional advantages, making unique contributions to the global public welfare.
