In the Moonlight | Mid-Autumn Day Celebrated at YCA

On the evening of September 10, Yenching Scholars from the 2021 and 2022 cohorts celebrated the Mid-Autumn Festival at Jingyuan Courtyard 3. The event was co-moderated by Du Xinran (China) onsite and Claire Qiao (USA) online, and all attendees had a happy evening.

Show Time

Our Scholars staged a kaleidoscopic show and treated themselves to classic and modern arts from China and the West.

Duan Haoran (China) gave a live show of Jay Chou’s “Common Jasmin Orange”, and Alan Tam’s Cantonese song “Beloved in My Life” The attendees were thrilled at his performance, especially his harmonized voice.

Kathy Mae Min (USA) and Kimberly Tan (Singapore) played the melody “Moon River”. The lyrics sounded perfectly to the harmonious guitar, violin, and piano tunes.

Héloïse Marie Philippine Garry (France) brought to life on his piano Schubert’s “Impromptu Op. 90 D. 899”. Alyssa Go (the Philippines) enchanted the audience with the tune of “For You”.

Yuan Yan, clad in a traditional Chinese costume, danced “Elegy to Fallen Flowers”, representing the famous scene of Daiyu burying the fallen flowers from the 18th-century Chinese novel, “The Dream of the Red Chamber”. Yang Yiyun performed Leo Ku’s “The Greatest Love”, joined by all the attendees.

More so, students from the Guanghua School of Management joined our Show Time, presenting a Latin dance show to the tune “Fly Me to the Moon”.

Game Time and Special Mooncake

The room resounded with laughter as the participants enjoyed the festivities, games, and delicacies.

Chang’e, Jade Rabbit, the Moon, and Mooncake all played their roles in “Who Is the Undercover”. It was also a night of learning in a fun way as the Scholars were enlightened by the Lantern Riddles and answers that were readily relevant.

The Academy provided mooncakes of various flavors for the students’ enjoyment, exuding a feeling of family reunion and warmth of the festival.

The Academy sent Surprise Gift Bags to the five international students under health surveillance at Zhongguanyuan Global Village PKU. The gift bag contained a greeting card and mooncakes. Different places we are from, the same moonlight we are immersed.

Li Bai wrote, “We've never seen what the moon looked like in the past, but in its light were our ancestors immersed. Come and go as we people do; the moon shines through ages over the world.”

Time never stops. The moon waxes and wanes, but our sweet memories of Jingyuan and YCA will never fade. May every one of us live with this memory of sweetness in our coming days.
